Is it possible that President Donald Trump could be a victim of his own success?
With Trump’s historic 2016 presidential election victory he opened the door to the possibility of other non-politicians running for office, proving that it can be done and with that success fresh in mind, author Brad Thor has declared he will challenge the president in the 2020 Republican primary.
The best-selling thriller novelist will run as the anti-Trump candidate, harboring a strong opposition to President Trump, who he says is “mentally unfit” to hold office.
Thor first dropped a tease on Twitter Saturday evening, tweeting: “If no conservative steps up, I will absolutely challenge Donald Trump in 2020. America deserves better leadership.”

Five minutes later, he followed up with: “In fact, let’s make it official. I’m in.”

Social media was juiced over the announcement, but at least one social media user wondered if Thor himself was juiced on a little too much of country music superstar John Rich’s Redneck Riviera Whiskey.
A suggestion that prompted a one-word response from Rich to such a notion as too much of a good thing: “Impossible.”
Impossible…

“The pages of history do not care if you were a farmer, a soldier, a doctor, or a butcher,” Thor told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “They care whether or not, when called, if you rose up to serve. Our Republic cries out for leadership, someone who will respect our Constitutional norms and represent the world’s greatest minority – the individual. That is who I am running for.”
It’s not clear what “Constitutional norms” the author feels Trump may have violated, but then, Thor was a vociferous critic of the president’s during the 2016 GOP primary so he’s not expected to have much tolerance for him.
“With the lessons of history as my guide, I see in Donald Trump the character flaws that are the hallmarks of despotism,” Thor wrote in a Facebook post in May 2016.
Thor entertained ideas for a running mate, responding favorable to a suggestion of conservative commentator Ben Shapiro being on the ticket with him.

And it’s clear that not only will he take Trump head on, Thor will do so utilizing his new-found opponent’s favorite platform — Twitter.
“Heads up @realDonaldTrump. The era of know-nothing, insult-comedy politics is over. Leadership, stability, and intelligence are on the way back. #Thor2020,” he then tweeted.

Ironically, President Trump shared a tweet earlier in the day that calls to mind “insult-comedy politics,” but only to suggest that we should not always believe what we hear.
The Washington Post said I refer to Jeff Sessions as “Mr. Magoo” and Rod Rosenstein as “Mr. Peepers.” This is “according to people with whom the president has spoken.” There are no such people and don’t know these characters…just more Fake & Disgusting News to create ill will!

Many of the popular author’s fans are conservatives who support Trump, so it will be interesting to see what effect this has on his overall popularity. Recent history tells us that other candidates tried to take the high road against Trump in 2016, only to be steamrolled by his no holds barred style.
In fact, Thor appears to be getting a taste of what it will be like going against Trump already, according to this tweet: “Some of my friends in the pro-Trump camp are very angry at the idea that anyone would primary him. If he’s doing so well, why such vitriol over a primary challenge?”

As for Twitter, we know too well that the social media platform giveth, and the social media platform taketh away.
Here’s a sampling of responses as seen on Twitter:
No one is going to best Trump for the nomination

Brad. I actually had the opportunity to negotiate with and deal personally with Trump while practicing law. You make valid points here, but I think you’ve gone a bit overboard in these criticisms.

I love how he talks about Trump’s “rage tweets” while he’s been on an unhinged rant all day. Yikes. 😬 pic.twitter.com/gMCwoVa3Nm

It’s a stunt. He has a new book coming out in July. What a fraud. @BradThor pic.twitter.com/MnIUqKhoP1
