Anonymous liberal media sources claim Attorney General Jeff Sessions has essentially threatened to resign if President Donald Trump terminates his deputy, Rod Rosenstein, telling the White House that Rosenstein’s termination would put him in an untenable spot.
“Sessions made his position known in a phone call to White House counsel Donald McGahn last weekend, as Trump’s fury at Rosenstein peaked after the deputy attorney general approved the FBI’s raid April 9 on the president’s personal attorney Michael Cohen,” The Washington Post reported Friday, citing unnamed sources “familiar with the exchange.”
The Post’s sources also claimed Sessions resents the president’s treatment of Rosenstein, the man who assigned special counsel Robert Mueller to investigate Trump’s 2016 election campaign over unproven allegations of collusion.
Sessions’ alleged affinity for Rosenstein seems odd given that even House Oversight Committee chairman Rep. Trey Gowdy, one of the most respected members of Congress, has previously criticized the deputy attorney general for his poor decisions.
Speaking on Fox News two months ago, Gowdy was critical of Rosenstein for empowering Mueller with the authority to extend beyond his purview. Mueller’s original task was to investigate unproven claims of collusion between the president and Russian operatives to affect the outcome of the 2016 election.
Just a week ago the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York executed a raid on the president’s longtime attorney after receiving a referral from Mueller that was completely unrelated to his Russian collusion probe.
“Do I have fear that [Mueller’s] jurisdiction may wander a bit? I think it already has. But I would not blame Bob Mueller,” Gowdy said.
“I would blame whoever drafted the jurisdiction and the charter that empowered him. If you look at it, it says matters that may arise from the investigation. What the heck does that mean? Is that a bank robbery in Topeka, Kansas?”
What remains unclear is whether the Post’s sources were actually accurate. The liberal mainstream media have a proven record of using both dubious sources and faulty information to publish what the president often describes as “fake news.”

The Fake News Washington Post, Amazon’s “chief lobbyist,” has another (of many) phony headlines, “Trump Defiant As China Adds Trade Penalties.” WRONG! Should read, “Trump Defiant as U.S. Adds Trade Penalties, Will End Barriers And Massive I.P. Theft.” Typically bad reporting!

As of Saturday morning neither the president nor Sessions had yet responded to the Post’s latest reports. If Trump believes the report is “fake news,” we may know soon enough.
