California may flip red in backlash against liberal craziness – jailing waiters could be final straw

There is a generally held belief among optimists that the American people, after exhausting all other options, eventually get it right and we may be seeing signs of this in California.

Liberal craziness may be running its course in some parts of the Golden State, as a growing number of counties and municipalities are opting to challenge California’s sanctuary state laws.

Adding to the crescendo of lunacy, as seen in an op-ed by Peggy Grande, who served as President Ronald Reagan’s executive assistant from 1989 – 1999, is a “ridiculous and egregious example of overreach,” where servers are being threatened with arrest over plastic straws.

Democrats enjoy a supermajority at the state level — this lack of balance being “great,” according to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey — and California residents are paying the price, Grande writes:

“For those of us who don’t make the policies, but must live under them, we feel Sacramento’s presence in our daily lives in ways – and in places – we shouldn’t.  In our grocery stores if you want to take your purchases home in a bag, there’s a per bag fee.  (As my own personal protest, I don’t pay for bags and just throw all the items back in my cart and loose into the back of my car.)  And in the most ridiculous and egregious example of overreach, the state legislature says it will arrest any waiter who gives a customer a plastic straw if they don’t ask for one.  With all the problems in our state, I don’t think that jailing unsolicited straw distributors in restaurants should be a top priority.”

Grande goes on to suggest that while Democrats are predicting a blue wave across the nation, we may be seeing the beginnings of “a red ripple” in California.

Other new laws in the state include barring employers from asking applicants about their salary history and allowing residents to make up their gender on official state ID cards, The Daily Wire reported.

The editorial from Grande caught the attention of outspoken conservative actor James Woods, who shared it on Twitter:

Turns out, actor Adam Baldwin also took issue with Democrat-controlled California, although he highlighted a passage from Grande that said government overreach is not a partisan issue:

Social media users are encouraged by the notion that Californians could be moving away from the dark side, toward a more common sense conservative rationale.

It’s way too early to say this is a certainty, but here’s a sampling of responses from Twitter:
