Boy with sick father makes emotional plea to POTUS, receives a response that will melt your heart

President Trump brightened the life of one devastated family.

Eight-year-old Fore Putnam of North Carolina on Monday received a response to a Christmas letter he sent the White House, in which he told the Republican president he wants help finding a replacement kidney for his infirm father, WBTV reports.

At Christmas time, Fore sent letters to Santa Claus, President Trump, and First Lady Melania.

“Dear Mr. President,” he wrote. “My dad has been sick for a long time. He has to have a kidney to live.”

In an emotional plea, the boy wrote he only wanted a kidney for his father for Christmas. “And maybe one toy,” he added.

Trae Putnam suffers from a rare blood disorder that has caused his kidneys to lose their function for the last three years, requiring him to attend five-hour dialysis sessions three times a week.

“On those days I’m so sick I can’t really do anything,” he said. “And sometimes – the other days – I’m pretty sick, too.”

“My dad’s been on dialysis for three and a half years and we haven’t gotten to play golf or football or any of that,” Fore explained.

On Monday, the eight-year-old’s grandmother called, saying a yellow manila folder from the White House had arrived in the mail.

“My grandma called and said, ‘you got a letter in the mail from the White House,’ and I was like, ‘what?'” Fore told WBTV.

The boy’s grandmother told CBS News:

“I really thought it’s probably just a canned picture of him with some sort of canned response. But I called my son and told him that Fore had some mail here. And when we opened it, I was just in awe. As busy as presidents are, he took the time to write to an 8 year old that has such a heart for his dad.”

It only took them ten minutes to arrive. The worried son left the envelop torn almost in half.

Of the letter, Fore related:

“It said they were going to do what they can to help my dad get what he needs. So that gave me a little bit of hope.”

“I admire your determination to make sure your dad has the support and resources he needs to feel better,” President Trump wrote. ”

“I have shared your letter with my staff, and they are working to see what help they can provide,” the commander-in-chief added.

The Putnams said they feel renewed hope now that they have the president’s support. He told CBS News they’ve received donation offers since their story hit the news.

“It really has given me hope. I’ve been on the kidney list for three years and you kind of feel helpless, just like I’m never going to get it. But all of the people that’ve responded to it on Facebook, and people calling. We’ve actually had a few people give us their information that are interested in maybe donating.”

Trae said he’s proud of his son:

“One thing about my son, ever since I’ve been sick, he’s been right by my side helping me,” he said. “And that’s the main reason I want to pull through – so I can be the dad that he deserves.”
