Former Obama United Nations Ambassador Samantha Power has a theory for why right-wing nationalists made major gains in this week’s Italian election. Her answer starts with “R” and ends with “ussia.”
The day after the election, Power took to Twitter to denounce “Russian interference,” and shared an article that claimed “Kremlin-backed media outlets boosted xenophobic discourse.”
Italy’s joins long list of elections influenced by Russia. Sputnik will do what Sputnik does. The question is: what are our democracies going to do about it? Will voters repudiate candidates who seek to benefit from Russian interference? https://t.co/JbFe35Sw5n

“Italy’s joins long list of elections influenced by Russia,” Power wrote. “Sputnik will do what Sputnik does. The question is: what are our democracies going to do about it? Will voters repudiate candidates who seek to benefit from Russian interference?”
Power, who came under scrutiny last year after it was discovered she sought more than one foreign intelligence unmasking per day in the final months of the Obama administration, was mercilessly mocked–including by many Italians.
Please take your paranoid conspiracy theories away from my beloved country.
Theres no Russian meddling in our politics. There are lots of US, globalist finance and multinational corporation meddling though.— Luigi Splenetico (@Splenetico) March 5, 2018
Man…. this russia scare is getting really ridiculous…. stop it… its embarrassing.

It had nothing to do with the 38% youth unemployment, the stagnant economy, the record number of young people living with their parents, the nonexistent opportunities for career advancement, miserable wages and the sense that everything is rigged. Clearly influenced by Russia!

Have you ever been to Italy? As Italian i was not influenced by any Russian, the only ones that commented about our eletions were the EU leaders and the US ambassador…and as you know US ambassador like quite a lot, at least in Italy to talk about our elections…..

You are completely wrong and know nothing about Italy, how people live here and why we vote in this way, stop this russian crap, it have nothing to do with it.

Dr Power, you’re being ridiculous. You ought to come to terms that people don’t always vote according to your models.

Isn’t there somebody in Italy you can unmask?

The Obama associate’s tweet was a reaction to election results in which the right-wing “League,” which is opposed to the European Union and Muslim immigration, gained a plurality of seats in both houses of the Italian legislature.
The populist Five Star Movement came in second place, and the center-left Democratic Party came in last.
Last month, the Justice Department announced that Russian-linked entities on social media conducted “disinformation campaigns” during the election, and that they supported both left-wing and right-wing causes–including the candidacy of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders (I).
Samantha Power confirms that liberals have a new boogeyman. No matter where in the world they lose an election, the left is sure to lay the blame on Russia.
