A video posted on Facebook by Bryan Thornhill punishing his son for bullying others has been seen more than 22 million times and is raising plenty of eyebrows, with him being hailed as “father of the year”… and denounced as a bully himself.
Thornhill explains in the video he titled, “You Better Listen to Your Dad 2018,” that his young son “was kicked off the bus for three days because he was being a little bully which I do not tolerate. Can’t stand.”

“Therefore, he has to now run to school, we’re right about one mile from the school so all week he’s got the experience of running,” Thornhill says in the video.
The 10-year-old boy’s punishment was that he must run to school — even in the rain.
Great job Dad… (Bryan Thornhill)

What may have worked against Thornton’s choice of discipline could be his sense of humor.
“The good news is guys, he keeps up a pretty good mile pace, 6 miles an hour so far,” he says in the short video. “Yesterday he was apparently a little rude for Michelle in the morning, so even though it’s raining this morning he still gets to run.”
He said his son’s behavior at school has been “much better,” and his teachers have approved of how he was doing.
“This right here’s just old school simple parenting,” Thornton said. “This ain’t killing nobody. This is a healthy way for a child to be punished.”
“I just wanted to show everybody and give you a good little laugh,” he added.
The reaction to the video was largely in support of Thornton, though there was the occasional criticism peppered in, as seen below:
With the video garnering so much attention, Thornton posted a statement Tuesday on his Facebook page reinforcing the importance to “love” our children “with hugs and discipline.”
“News media is a great tool. Love to see something positive come from it,” he wrote. “Hoping that all this will give inspiration around the world.
“Our children are our future. Being a parent is a choice. Make sure you show your children you love them with hugs and discipline. Parenting isn’t always about being a friend its about leading them into the future.”
