Former Trump campaign aide Sam Nunberg appeared to be drunk in a live television interview on CNN Monday evening.

CNN’s Erin Burnett told Nunberg she smelled alcohol on his breath and confronted him about whether or not he had anything to drink before the interview. Nunberg completely denied the accusations, but did say he had taken some “antidepressant” medication earlier.

“Sam, I have to ask you one other thing. It’s an awkward question to ask. You’re sitting very close to me. We talked earlier about what people in the White House were saying to you. Talking about whether you were drinking or on drugs. Talking to you, I have smelled alcohol on your breath,” Burnett said.

“I have not had a drink,” Nunberg responded. “My answer is ‘no.’”

Burnett pressed Nunberg, but he continued to deny drinking before the interview.

“No. Besides my anti-depressants. Is that okay,” Nunberg said.

Nunberg did a number of interviews Monday after special counsel Robert Mueller issued him a subpoena in his ongoing investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

President Donald Trump’s former aide told CNN he will not comply with Mueller’s investigation and does not plan on appearing before a grand jury.

“Screw that,” Nunberg said in response to whether or not he will comply. “Why do I have to go? Why? For what?”
