As the 2018 Winter Olympics came to an end, Gus Kenworthy couldn’t help getting political one last time.
The openly-gay skier, who placed 12th in the slopestyle final, tweeted on Sunday that he was not happy to see First Daughter Ivanka Trump leading the US delegation at the closing ceremony to the Olympic games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
So proud of all these people! Everybody here has worked so hard to make it to the Olympics and have the opportunity to walk in the closing ceremony! Well… Everyone except Ivanka. Honestly, tf is she doing here?? pic.twitter.com/sfJKi0VTDb

“So proud of all these people!” Kenworthy wrote. “Everybody here has worked so hard to make it to the Olympics and have the opportunity to walk in the closing ceremony! Well… Everyone except Ivanka. Honestly, tf is she doing here??”
The athlete’s tweet was met by many sharp rebukes, some of which noted his performance at the games, which failed to live up to his 2014 silver medal win at the Sochi, Russia Olympics.
Didn’t you finish last or in the bottom half of most of our ski competitions? I believe you did. Perhaps you should practice more on making yourself better and leave the political commentary to the experts.

Given your dreadful performance, the real question sir is what TF where you doing there?
— Darren Hunter (@darren_hunter1) February 25, 2018
She is there doing her JOB! Unlike some people Mr. 12th place.

Nothing says team USA like trashing the Presidents daughter. How classy
— C G (@CEG_Iowa) February 26, 2018
With the performance you put out there, she was probably thinking the same thing about you. ???
— Cody (@MrCdubya) February 26, 2018
Gus, You are rude and uneducated. She is the daughter of the President of the US, she is representing her father in an unofficial visit. It is a way to show respect and attention to the SK People and Government, friends of the USA. It is call Diplomacy.

Representing all Americans, because that is what the Olympics is about. You?

The First Daughter arrived in South Korea on Friday, immediately making waves by revealing she traveled on a commercial flight.
Can I catch a ride back to the states on Air Force One?? https://t.co/ngiKbzmJjx

We’re rolling commercial, but you’re welcome to sit next me! ✈️ Or come visit us at the White House anytime! Congrats! https://t.co/SzhHcuzVkA

While in Pyeongchang, Trump took care of official business in her capacity as White House adviser, personally meeting with South Korean President Moon Jae-in to talk North Korea.

She also met with American athletes’ families, including the children of bobsledder and former green beret Nate Weber.
Regardless of your politics you have to admit that it's pretty cool when @IvankaTrump invites your kids to watch the #Olympics with her. It was an amazing experience for them. #teamusa https://t.co/4zKzMZh8JQ

Here's another tweet for everyone that didn't like @IvankaTrump being absolutely wonderful to my children. Her and my daughters were like best friends today. It was a truly special experience for them. #thankyou pic.twitter.com/u6hlVUJonz

During the games, Gus Kenworthy also voiced his disapproval of Vice President Mike Pence, who led the American delegation at the competition’s opening.
“I’m so proud to be representing the LGBTQ community alongside this amazing guy!” Kenworthy wrote in an Instagram post that showed him pictured beside another gay athlete, figure skater Adam Rippon. “Eat your heart out, Pence.”
After Kenworthy broke his thumb during a practice session, he joked that the injury wouldn’t stop him from competing, but would keep him from shaking the vice president’s hand.
Broke my thumb yesterday in practice. It won't stop me from competing (obvi) but it does prevent me from shaking Pence's hand so… Silver linings! Will be giving my teammates (and literally everyone else) an enthusiastic "thumbs up!" of encouragement the rest of the trip. pic.twitter.com/XylPPGAq9P

Kenworthy would do well to take a page out of Ivanka Trump’s book when it comes to representing his country with dignity and class.
