Additional information about the FBI’s handling of Stoneman Douglas shooting suspect Nikolas Cruz has come to light.
In a January 5 call to the FBI’s Public Access Line, an unnamed female warned that Cruz was “outraged” and was likely to “get into a school and just shoot the place up,” according to transcripts obtained by the Wall Street Journal.
The call was reportedly made by a person close to Cruz, who described his disturbing social media posts showing guns and knives.
“It’s alarming to see these pictures and to know what he’s capable of doing and what could happen,” the woman said. “He’s [been] thrown out of all these schools because he would pick up a chair and just throw it at somebody, a teacher or a student, because he didn’t like the way they were talking to him.”
“Something is gonna happen,” she told the FBI. “Because he’s, he doesn’t have the mental capacity. He can’t, he’s so outraged if someone talks to him about certain things.”
In the call, the woman claimed she’d previously informed authorities about Instagram posts in which Cruz contemplated suicide. She said Cruz “switched it to he wants to kill people.”
The caller said the shooting suspect, who is currently charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder, was “going to explode.”
She reportedly informed the FBI in order to have a “clear conscience” in the event he “just starts shooting places up.”
The woman described an incident in which Cruz allegedly brought a bird into his mother’s house and began dissecting it because he wanted to “see what’s inside.”
“That to me would be a red flag,” the caller told the FBI operator.
She also warned the Bureau that Cruz would potentially use money from a life insurance policy to buy guns.
Not all of the woman’s details were confirmed, the Journal noted.
The FBI has faced scrutiny for not following up on a tip from last year in which a Youtube user named “Nikolas Cruz” wrote “I am going to be a professional school shooter.”
Local authorities were also alerted to the Cruz household 39 times since 2010 for issues like domestic disturbance and child/elderly abuse.
Cruz is being held without bond at Broward County Jail. He could face Florida’s death penalty.
