Democrat leaders, spearheaded by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, fired off a letter warning President Donald Trump not to even think about firing special counsel Robert Mueller or Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.
Coming after the release of the House Intelligence Committee memo, Democrats warned of a “constitutional crisis” in a letter to the president.
“Firing Rod Rosenstein, DOJ Leadership, or Bob Mueller could result in a constitutional crisis of the kind not seen since the Saturday Night Massacre,” the letter stated, referencing former President Richard Nixon’s firing of independent special prosecutor Archibald Cox.

Of course, it was Pelosi and Co. who warned of threats to national security that may lead to a constitutional crisis if the memo was released — the threats have since been easily debunked.

Refusing to let go of the Russian collusion narrative, which is based in large part on the Steele dossier that’s undermined by the memo, Schumer tweeted if Trump takes any action, it will be seen as obstructing justice.
“The Nunes memo is partisan and misleading, simple as that. To use it as pretext for firing Deputy AG Rosenstein, Special Counsel Mueller or other DOJ leadership would be viewed as an attempt to obstruct justice in the Russia investigation,” the tweet read.

When asked by a reporter on Friday if he was considering firing Rosenstein, who oversees the Russian collusion investigation, Trump replied, “You figure that one out.”

The White House later told CBS News “there is no conversation or consideration about firing Rob Rosenstein.”
