Democrats in panic: After Trump’s well-received SOTU, midterm election edge evaporates overnight

Might want to rethink those “blue wave” midterm parties you’ve been planning, Dems, because it looks like the trend may be going in an entirely different direction.

According to a Monmouth University poll released on Wednesday, Democrats have only a “negligible edge” over the GOP in the upcoming Congressional elections.

Where just last month’s Monmouth University Polling Institute (MUPI) polling showed a 15 point generic Democratic edge, the polling this month had Republicans only 2 points behind Democrats at 45 percent to 47 percent, solidly inside the poll’s 3.5 percent margin of error.

And better still, the poll was conducted before President Trump’s successful State of the Union Address.

MUPI director Patrick Murray notes the early nature of this type of polling, but cautioned Democrats who think they’re going to ride that “blue wave” all the way to Trump’s impeachment.

“The generic Congressional ballot is prone to bouncing around for a bit until the campaign really gets underway later this year,” said Murray. “But Democrats who counted on riding public hostility toward the tax bill to retake the House may have to rethink that strategy.”

President Trump’s approval was slightly up, but still relatively low at 42 percent.\

The White House has given a time when FISA memo will be released – Democrats are already scrambling

But it’s been ticking up in all polling, a good sign for the president.

37 percent of respondents think the U.S. is headed in the “right direction.” Still a low number, but far better than the 24 percent last month.

In perhaps the most important good new for a GOP desperate for accomplishments, the poll also found that Trump’s newly passed tax bill has quickly found much more support than when it was initially passed.

Panicked FBI sent five officials to the White House to stop FISA memo, and look who they lobbied

Which means GOP candidates will actually have something solid to run on this Fall.
