Breaking: FISA memo alleging improper surveillance was just sent to President Trump

The ball is now in President Trump’s court.

The classified House Intelligence Committee memo alleging the FBI abused the Foreign Intelligence Act to spy on the Trump campaign is now at the White House, where its release to the public pends on the president’s approval, ABC reports.

White House Deputy Press Secretary Hogan Gidley confirmed on CNN that the memo arrived Monday night, shortly after GOP lawmakers in the House Intelligence Committee voted along party lines to release it publicly.

“The president will ultimately be the one to make that call,” Gidley told CNN. “He wants transparency. He wants the people to see just what they are dealing with with their government but at the same time the president would never risk putting American lives at risk over a document. When he takes a look at it and seeks counsel from his team, he’ll make that decision.”

Democrats, including the committee’s ranking member, Adam Schiff (CA), opposed the document’s release. Schiff called the vote to release the memo “A very sad day, I think, in the history of this committee.”

The Department of Justice warned Nunes that releasing the memo without allowing the department and the FBI to review it first would be “extremely reckless,” NBC notes.

Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), who chairs the Intelligence Committee and has spear-headed the memo, reviewed the document with FBI Director Christopher Way on Sunday, The Hill reported.

A senior White House official told the Washington Post on Sunday that President Trump wants the memo released.

He now has five days to make a decision or the memo will be released automatically.
