Perhaps it’s a good thing that Rep. Luis Gutierrez is retiring from Congress.
While we heartily agree Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is a forgettable character, the Illinois Democrat should be able to remember his party’s leader in the upper chamber.

Yet, on two separate occasions Wednesday, try as he might, Gutierrez could not come up with Schumer’s name.
In the first instance, Gutierrez was discussing immigration on MSNBC.
He referenced a meeting House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Schumer had with President Donald Trump, but totally forgot the New York lawmaker’s name, calling him “the senator.”
“We all remember when Senator, um… um, when the senator and the minority leader, Pelosi, met with President Trump, they said we need to marry border security with the Dream Act,” Gutierrez said.
After the first embarrassing moment, you might think Guiterrez had learned his lesson.
You’d be wrong.
Appearing on CNN later in the afternoon, Gutierrez referenced the same meeting and STILL could not remember Schumer’s name.
“I don’t know if you remember, Brooke, when they came out of the meeting, Nancy Pelosi and Senator, um…um, the senator from New York, they came out…” Gutierrez said.
“Schumer,” CNN host Brooke Baldwin interjected, saving face for the Democrat.
Could a cognitive assessment test be in order for the left-wing lawmaker before he leaves Washington?
