Police to monitor Fla. University’s new ‘White Racism’ class – if you read course description, you see why

Irony is a constant with liberals.

Florida Gulf Coast University has faced criticism for a new course titled “White Racism.” Messages sent to the professor teaching the course have prompted the school to request a police presence at the first class on Tuesday.

Assistant professor of sociology Ted Thornhill told News-Press he has received negative emails and voice messages since it was announced he would be teaching the class. The instructor claimed he has been called a racist for his role in the course.

Thornhill confirmed there would be police on-site at the course’s first session on Tuesday.

The course description reads:

“In this course, we will interrogate the concept of race; examine the racist ideologies, laws, policies, and practices that have operated for hundreds of years to maintain white racial domination over those racialized as non-white; and discuss ways to challenge and disrupt white racism and dethrone white supremacy in the service of engendering an anti-racist society where whiteness is not tied to greater life chances.”

The university said in a statement that “We have prepared for any possible distractions related to Tuesday’s first class of the White Racism course, but we are expecting normal campus civility as our students engage in this and other courses at the spring semester’s start.”

Thornhill gave FGCU police 46 pages of emails and voicemails consisting of negative feedback he received about the course. None of them threatened violence or disruption to the professor or his class. Some wished him ill.

“Cancer (Stage 4) is what you and your family deserve for spreading hate, lies &  intolerance,” an email read.

Thornhill called the reaction to the course “upsetting but perhaps not entirely surprising given the nature of these more rabid white racists.”

He continued.

“I take these type of things seriously just like when people were writing racist things on the whiteboard and then posting things around campus. You never know what people are thinking and what they might be capable of. It’s good to be cautious.”

Thornhill also said he viewed “unspeakable” comments on social media and news outlet comment sections.

The “White Racism” course is a response to a handful of incidents.

Last year, a flier that read “White Guilt Free Yourself From Cultural Marxism” was seen on campus, NBC 2 reports. In November, fliers with the words “It’s okay to be white” were found on walls.

Left-wing educators may decry allegedly racist “white institutions,” but they don’t hesitate to reap the benefits of those institutions.
