MSNBC host Chris Matthews allegedly runs such an abusive work environment that some staffers describe themselves as victims of “battered wives syndrome.”
That’s according to several guests who have appeared on “Hardball,” and two former producers who spoke exclusively to The Daily Caller.
Matthews was not only verbally abusive, yelling at staffers, calling them “worthless” and an “idiot,” he was “brazenly sexist,” according to the online news source.
More from The Daily Caller:
Two former NBC producers independently alleged Matthews would rate the looks of his female guests on a scale and said Matthews was so abusive that staff joked about being battered women. The interviews in total paint Matthews as a tyrant liable to fly off the handle at the slightest mistake, who was eager to objectify women and made inappropriate sexual comments appear to be a matter of course for someone in his position.
The former producers requested anonymity out of concern for their careers, with one saying other women were so concerned about possible reprisals they would not even come forward anonymously.
Matthews would allegedly “objectify” female guests and staffers, commenting on their appearance and clothing, use inappropriate pet names like “cutie” and “sweetie pie” and make other “boorish” remarks about them.
Some of this boorish behavior was caught on camera.

One former producer said it looked like Matthews was undressing the women with his eyes.
“He would eye down a woman who walked on set,” the ex-staffer said, “or comment on their features or what they were wearing. He would objectify them and interrupt them in a way that he would never do to his male guests.
“He has a very outdated view of women.”
A view that’s costing NBC money, as the network has been forced to make separation-related payment to one of Matthews’ female employees who must have sent a thrill up his leg.

The other producer compared Matthews’ behavior to that of a “teenage boy,” alleging the MSNBC host used a numeral scale to rate his female guests, according to the Daily Caller. She said he would pick which female guest was the “hottest of the week.”
But the behavior was not limited to guests, as the woman said Matthews talked about how “hot” various women in the office were, including herself.
