James Comey just can’t let it go.
The former FBI director took to Twitter Sunday evening to express a hope for “more ethical leadership in 2018”–a remark widely interpreted as alluding to President Donald Trump.
Here’s hoping 2018 brings more ethical leadership, focused on the truth and lasting values. Happy New Year, everybody.

Many users fired back at Comey’s indirect New Year’s Eve jab at the president.
Well you didn’t show too much ethical leadership when you let Strok & Lynch tell you how to word certain legal matters when dealing with Mrs Clinton. And didn’t show it when u leaked a memo to the Times to get your boy Mueller in charge of BS Russia probe. Pot calling kettl Black

so much corruption happened under your watch yet you’re still pretending life is grand; prancing in fields, tossing out bible quotes, getting millions for your ‘story’ – a story to which we already know the ending.
i feel sad for you. #WhenYouSellYourSoul …

It got more ethical as soon as you got out!

I think silence would have been wiser. This tweet shows you to be extremely careless. Not a crime of course, unless it is with secret government documents.

Are you planning to confess and face consequences of your actions? That’s a great place to start!

As if you wld understand Ethical Leadership! You politicized the @FBI with all your “ethical leadership” shame on you Mr Comey. You used your position in the FBI to knowingly apply for FISA Warrant to spy on America Citizens! I hope you lose all u hold dear Mr Comey, as u deserve

Says the man who admitted to leaking information to the press. Spare us your lecture on ethics.

There already is now that you’re gone.

The president offered his own New Year’ wishes, in which he desired the best even for his “enemies” and “haters”–which could presumably include James Comey.

Since making his Twitter account public, the former FBI director has posted numerous thinly veiled critiques of President Trump.
Our tree is ready. May we all get and give a little more kindness this Christmas. No matter what you believe or think, I wish you peace. pic.twitter.com/0maUHCXoZG

Sadly, we are now at a point in our political life when anyone can be attacked for partisan gain. James Baker, who is stepping down as FBI General Counsel, served our country incredibly well for 25 years & deserves better. He is what we should all want our public servants to be.

Don’t let them get you down: “We cannot absolutely prove that those are in error who tell us that society has reached a turning point, that we have seen our best days. But so said all before us, and with just as much apparent reason. “ Thomas Babbington Macaulay (1830)

Comey’s work at the FBI has been heavily scrutinized since the president fired him in May. The bureau has been accused of pro-Clinton, anti-Trump bias under his watch.
Last month it was revealed FBI agent Peter Strzok suggested a change in draft language for Comey’s description of Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while she was secretary of state, updating “grossly negligent” to “extremely careless.”
Strzok was demoted at the FBI and removed from special counsel Mueller’s probe into the Trump campaign after the Department of Justice uncovered anti-Trump texts he sent to FBI lawyer Lisa Page, with whom Strzok was having an affair.

When it comes to “ethical leadership” and “truth,” Comey may want to remember the saying about glass houses and throwing stones.
