Conservative fires back at Don Lemon, calls CNN ‘a dog whistle for race-baiting, anti-Trump bigots’

Conservatives are sending Don Lemon a message–and they certainly aren’t doing it with the discreetness of a “dog whistle.”

On Tuesday, radio host Todd Starnes was among the panelists who joined “Hannity” guest-host David Webb to take on CNN anchor Don Lemon’s assertion that President Trump use of “Merry Christmas” is a “dog whistle” to his base.

“You know, I forgot to bring my dog whistle,” Webb joked. “I usually have that on my radio show to blow whenever I hear that phrase.”

He then took another jab at Lemon, saying that “dogs are barking everywhere,” before Starnes gave a strong response to the CNN host.

“So let me say something about Don Lemon and, quite frankly, CNN. Their entire network is a dog whistle for race-baiting, anti-Trump bigots. I mean, it’s 24/7! They really believe that ‘Merry Christmas’ is a dog whistle. It makes me wonder what they think the words ‘Ho! Ho! Ho!’ would be code for.”

Starnes questioned liberals’ desire to make Christmas “inclusive,” dismissing the push as an effort against Christianity.

“I want to go to this idea that Christmas is somehow inclusive. Is that really true? Because you don’t hear them talking about how ‘well, Ramadan needs to be more inclusive.’ This really is not about inclusivity, David. This is about marginalizing Christianity.”

The Fox News Radio host defended President Trump against Lemon’s attacks, asserting the president’s insistence on saying “merry Christmas” is an acknowledgement of the holiday’s Christian roots.

“When President Trump said the words ‘we’re gonna start saying “merry Christmas” again,’ what he was trying to tell people was, ‘You know what? I understand the true meaning of Christmas. Jesus is the reason for the season.’ That was the message that the president was trying to convey.”

On Monday, President Trump tweeted a video featuring himself and First Lady Melania wishing Americans a Merry Christmas. The president quoted from the book of Isaiah in the Bible and called Jesus Christ “the true source of our hope.”

“For Christians, we remember the story of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph that began more than 2,000 years ago,” the president said. “As the book of Isaiah tells us, for to us a child is born, to us a son is given and the government will be on His shoulders and He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

“This good news is the greatest Christmas gift of all, the reason for our joy and the true source of our hope.”

It’s a welcome change to finally have a president who understands the true meaning of Christmas.
