Gov. Brown just did the unthinkable as a Christmas slap in the face to Donald Trump

California Gov. Jerry Brown is going out of his way to provoke a confrontation with President Donald Trump over illegal immigration.

Taking advantage of a Christmas holiday tradition, Governor Moonbeam pardoned two immigrants on Saturday who were about to be deported for committing crimes while in the U.S., Fox News reported.

Brown, who signed into law in October legislation that effectively made California a sanctuary state, reportedly characterized the pardons as acts of mercy.

The Democrat has a history of undermining Trump’s authority, including denouncing the U.S. president at a UN round table event, telling the world, “America is not run by Donald Trump.”

Brown was speaking out in defiance of Trump’s decision to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris climate agreement.

Federal officials have targeted immigrants with felony convictions that resulted in the loss of their legal residency status, according to Fox News, including some who are nonviolent offenders.

The two men Brown pardoned, Mony Neth and Rottanak Kong, are from Cambodian and came to the U.S. as children after their families fled the Khmer Rouge.

The Sacramento Bee reported that Kong was convicted on felony joyriding in 2003 at the age of 25 and sentenced to one year in jail and that Neth was convicted in 1995 on a felony weapons charge with a gang enhancement and a misdemeanor charge of receiving stolen property.
