Internet activism has TV actresses at each others’ throats.
Actress Amber Tamblyn tore at friend and Harvey Weinstein rape accuser Rose McGowan on Sunday for criticizing the celebrities who plan to protest sexual abuse at the upcoming Golden Globe awards.

Tamblyn rebuked McGowan, who censured stars who say they’ll wear black to the event and suggested they instead wear Marchesa, a brand created by Weinstein’s wife, Georgina Chapman.
THREAD: Rose McGowan is a friend and while I support her kind of movement, I do not support any woman (or man) shaming or taunting the movements of other women who are trying to create change. Telling us to all wear Marchesa? This is beneath you, Rose.

“Rose McGowan is a friend and while I support her kind of movement, I do not support any woman (or man) shaming or taunting the movements of other women who are trying to create change,” Tamblyn wrote on Twitter. “Telling us to all wear Marchesa? This is beneath you, Rose.”
Tamblyn blasted McGowan for attacking fellow women trying to promote “change.”
You don’t have to support and stand with us, but we stand and support you. You may take below the belt shots at us but we will not take them at you in return.

Our movement is big. And a black dress is just the beginning of the darkness that will be drained from every industry across the country by the time we’re done. That’s a promise.

And we stand together in this fight, shoulder to shoulder, weapon to weapon, woman to woman (and man), body to burned body. And our arms are open. And our hearts two fold. And our fire will be a universal scorch. Heed the mantra: #ChangeIsComing

Tamblyn accused McGowan of taking “below the belt shots” at the celebrities protesting widespread sexual assault and harassment allegations in the entertainment industry.
Italian actress Asian Argento defended McGowan, telling Tamblyn she should have expressed her concerns privately–not on social media.

I wish you’d have written this thread addressing it directly to @rosemcgowan, or even better, called or texted her, since you are friends.
— Asia Argento (@AsiaArgento) December 17, 2017
Tamblyn replied, asserting that she had spoken with McGowan in private.
Asia, I did. I spoke to her for over an hour.

Holly Marie Combs, who starred on the TV series “Charmed” along with McGowan and Tamblyn, also spoke out.
You just did to @rosemcgowan what you claim you don’t support her doing to others. Every activist for every cause the world over has different methods but share a common and more important message that should remain the same. And undiluted above all else.

Tamblyn replied to the charge of hypocrisy by saying that McGowan’s public message called for a public response.
Her statement was public and hurtful to some women so a public response was earned. I spoke to her at length today, she knows how I feel. I love Rose fiercely, that will never change. To be critical of an action is not to condemn the person behind it. There’s your common message. https://t.co/zniyfPZzPT

A fourth “Charmed” actress, Alyssa Milano, then stepped in to calm the situation.
I stand by every woman in the pursuit of permanent change and gender equality.

McGowan had originally tweeted that she despised the “hypocrisy” of the women who will wear black at the Golden Globes, including Meryl Streep.
“Actresses, like Meryl Streep, who happily worked for The Pig Monster are wearing black @GoldenGlobes in a silent protest,” McGowan wrote on Saturday. “YOUR SILENCE is THE problem. You’ll accept a fake award breathlessly & affect no real change. I despise your hypocrisy.”

The tense political climate has placed even long-time friendships on the edge.
