Brook Fiske was seventeen weeks pregnant when she traveled to Arlington, Virginia to visit her on-and-off again boyfriend, Sikander Imran, to tell him the news and make plans on raising the child.
Imran’s reaction, however, was far from what Fiske expected.
“He didn’t want to have a baby so he tried to talk me into having an abortion… which I didn’t want to do,” Fiske told WROC.
Since Fiske was unwilling, Imran, a doctor, took things into his own hands, allegedly poisoning the baby’s mother with an abortion pill in her drink.
“When I was drinking my tea in the evening I got to the bottom of the cup and there was a gritty substance in there and when I looked at it, I could tell that it was a pill that had been ground up,” Fiske said.
Not long after, she began having contractions.
“He [Imran] immediately started crying and said that he was a horrible person and that he had done what I thought he did,” she said.
After being rushed to Virginia Hospital Center, Fiske went into labor and ended up losing her baby boy. Tests reportedly showed the abortion pill Misoprostol in her system, according to Fiske.
“According to the nurse at the hospital, it’s 200 milligrams to induce labor. So he gave me 800.” Fiske told WROC.
Imran was arrested and charged with “cause of abortion and premeditated killing of a fetus of another.”
Fiske finally found some closure when she testified against Imran in court in June.
“It was very empowering for me to face him and say what he had done, and look him in the face while I said that,” she said.
Imran’s trial, which was set for this week, has been moved to start March 12 after more charges were added.
