As California wildfires continue to turn unabated, catching in their path the homes of liberals and conservatives, rich and poor alike, some people seem to enjoy taking delight in the misfortunes of others, especially if that misfortune hits a prominent media mogul who happens to own Fox News.
I hope no house would ever burn down but if a house has to be burned down because of a wild fire in an era of deregulation of climate policy… https://t.co/kiayirq4W4
— Av Gutman (@abgutman) December 6, 2017
Gutman is referring to the fact that the fires claimed the home of billionaire Rupert Murdoch, and he wasn’t alone in his sentiments. Neera Tanden, a prominent Clinton associate, cable news commentator, and the president of the liberal thinktank Center for American Progress, expressed delight at Murdoch’s misfortune by tweeting “There’s a God. And she’s unhappy.”
More than just a liberal activist, Tanden is knee-deep in her party of choice and its leaders of late, the Clintons and Obamas. Ever since she worked on the failed president campaign of Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis, Tanden has been active in Democratic Party politics. After serving as Hillary Clinton’s policy director during the 2008 Democratic primaries, she performed the same role for Barack Obama in the general election. During Obama’s tenure, Tanden was a key senior adviser to the Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, a role in which she worked to pass President Obama’s signature heathcare law.

Tanden was quickly called out for her callousness by a Twitter user who called her “classless.”
You seriously hope that your political appointees have their homes burned down? Classless!
— The Beer Legend (@thebeerlegend) December 6, 2017
To which Tanden resonded:
I do not hope for such things at all. I just note the Karma.
— Neera Tanden (@neeratanden) December 6, 2017
Feeling “badly” about her original tweet, Tanden deleted it, then wrote, “I’m deleting this tweet. It wasn’t funny when so many are hurting and scared. Feel badly about it.”
I’m deleting this tweet. It wasn’t funny when so many are hurting and scared. Feel badly about it.

That didn’t stop folks from criticizing Tanden’s classlessness:
I’ll bet this gives you more “cred” with your progressive friends. Is this true @amprog?
— Charburger (@charburrger79) December 6, 2017
Actually, Mr. Murdoch has homeowners insurance. You know, that thing you buy to protect your assets?
— Salty Sarah (@SarahT_in_Prov) December 6, 2017
And you SHOULD feel bad about it. Have you EVER suffered through losing everything you own in a house fire? No home, no clothes, no food, no place to sleep. You’ve got some nerve claiming to care about people. You’re nothing more than 1 more “liberal” parasite on humanity.

This crazy woman is a pathetic excuse for a human being…..celebrated that people are losing their homes to fire.
