Liberal journalist Cokie Roberts made a startling confession on ABC’s This Week: the press corps on Capitol Hill knew about Rep. John Conyers’ (D-MI) alleged sexual misconduct “for years.”
Let that sink in for a moment.
And yet these journalists–who never let so much as a Republican politician’s bad haircut go unreported–not once thought they should let the public know what the House’s longest-serving member was up to?

“The fact that people are willing to be public can change things,” Roberts said. “I mean, we all talked about for years.”
And to remove any doubt about what her apparent Freudian slip was referring to, Roberts continued:
“Don’t get in the elevator with him, you know, and the whole every female in the press corps knew that, right, don’t get in elevator with him. Now people are saying it out loud. And I think that does make a difference.”
The question is, why would Roberts and her colleagues in the press corps cover-up the bad behavior of a high-profile Congressman? Aren’t reporters always after the latest scoop and the juiciest scandals?
Roberts is a liberal known for making outlandish statements, like saying working class women in Alabama will vote for Roy Moore because they’re used to being sexually assaulted.
It’s too bad Roberts didn’t bother to lift a voice of outrage in defense of women when it could have made a difference.
But then, the extent of liberal hypocrisy is something that stopped being surprising a long time ago.

Did it not occur to anyone in that press circle to report/address the topic in the media? The problem is clearly systemic, but so is the willingness for both genders to overlook specific examples. We can send reporters to war fronts & riots, but not into Rep. Conyers office?
