The National Football League continued what appears to be a new tradition of allowing players to disrespect the flag and national anthem, even during the American people’s most sacred holidays.
On Thursday, NY Giants player Olivier Vernon ‘took a knee,’ instead of standing during the national anthem at the team’s Thanksgiving Day game versus the Washington Redskins.
Vernon explained his reason for the national anthem protests.
“What it would take for me to stand is if people can understand what the whole message is behind it,” he told Newsday. “That would actually help a whole lot, but everybody doesn’t see things that way and tries to distort what the message was from the beginning, which is basically social injustice on African-Americans and police brutality.”
Unfortunately for Vernon, the narrative about police killing black Americans disproportionately has even been debunked in the NY Times. As for the rest of his “social injustice” narrative, despite it all, it appears that blessed players like himself can make it all the way to the National Football League and make millions of dollars for playing a game.
It might behoove him to show a little more thankfulness for living in such a land of opportunity, which also happens to be one of the least-racist places on the planet.
The U.S. media, on the other hand, was more concerned about the *gasp* Redskins playing on Thanksgiving Day, due to its purportedly politically incorrect name.
Meanwhile, normal Americans were passing the stuffing during the Thanksgiving Day games, more and more of them with the televisions off.
