Rep. Conyers: If everyone facing ‘allegations’ resigned, we’d have ‘a lot of unemployed people walking around’

A defiant Rep. John Conyers is not going to resign from office despite allegations of sexual harassment and assault.

“Mr. Conyers is not going to resign,” his attorney, Arnold Reed, said to CNN. “If everybody that was facing ‘allegations’ — including the President, members of the House and Senate — resigned, we’d have a lot of unemployed people walking around.”

Reed said that the Congressman is not taking the charges lightly but added that “it didn’t happen.”

“At the end of the day, Mr. Conyers is not guilty of harassing these women who have come forward,” he said.

According to a Buzzfeed report, the Democrat representative, has been accused of touching several former staffers.

What’s more, he used taxpayer funds to settle a lawsuit against him in 2015 by a woman who said she was fired for declining to have sex with the 88-year-old representative.

Since the news broke, led by Republican Florida Rep. Ron DeSantis, Congress has begun working on legislation to prevent taxpayer funds from being used to settle such claims.

And, before leaving the White House for Thanksgiving, President Donald Trump called for the names of all Congressmen who have settled sexual harassment claims using money from taxpayers to be outed.
