It’s official. Country superstar Blake Shelton is the “Sexiest Man Alive.”

This marks the first time People magazine’s coveted prize goes to a country music singer. The eight-time Grammy award nominee and The Voice co-host joins the ranks of Sean Connery, Tom Cruise, George Clooney, and Johnny Depp.
Shelton, who has five platinum albums and four gold albums, is the 33rd man to be declared the sexiest on earth since People began the award back in 1985 (the first recipient was Mel Gibson).

The “Doin’ What She Likes” singer was taken aback when he first heard he’d been selected as the world’s top representation of masculinity.
When asked what went through his mind when he learned of the recognition, Shelton replied “That y’all must be running out of people. Like, Wow, we’re down to somebody who is somewhat symmetrical.”

Shelton, 41, credits his girlfriend of two years, singer and fellow The Voice co-host Gwen Stefani, with convincing him to accept the “Sexiest Man Alive” title.

“She goes, ‘Listen to me, you’re going to regret this for the rest of your life if you don’t take this gift and just live in the moment.”
The country icon also took a moment to throw a jab at another of his co-hosts from The Voice, Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine–who won People‘s “Sexiest Man” award in 2013 and with whom Shelton has a long-time playful rivalry.

“I can’t wait to shove this up Adam’s ass,” Shelton said. “As proud as I am and honored that you guys asked me, that’s really the only thing I care about.”
In fact, Shelton has been openly basking in his win on social media, making good use of the hashtag #donthatemebecauseimbeautiful.
