Look what Marie Claire made the internet do.
The magazine is under fire for a story chastising the “Look What You Made Me Do” singer for not getting involved in the 2016 presidential election.

In the story, titled “5 Things Taylor Swift *Should* Have Addressed on ‘Reputation’ but Didn’t,” author Kayleigh Roberts said that “her decision to remain silent in what was a particularly contentious and consequential presidential battle.”
Roberts cited a statement the American Civil Liberties Union issued against Swift after the singer’s legal team demanded that a blogger remove a story they wrote that called Swift “an icon of white supremacist, nationalists and other fringe groups,” because she didn’t speak out against President Donald Trump.

“Taylor is not required to be vocal about her politics (obviously, every American has the right to keep their vote private), but it’s also fair to side-eye and question her decision to remain silent — and said silence certainly contributed to her rep,” Roberts said.

“Whether she likes it or not, Taylor’s politics (or her perceived political apathy) are a part of her reputation, and a song addressing, or at least acknowledging, that (even if the song did not address her personal politics) would have been impactful,” Roberts wrote.
Social media did not appreciate Marie Claire’s attack on Swift.
Front and center among them was conservative writer Dana Loesch.
“Because she’s a singer and not a pundit and wants to perform, not alienate. This is a silly Mean Girls witch hunt for nothing,” Loesch tweeted.

Many others joined in on the attack against the magazine for what they considered to be bullying.
Stick it up your øbama, Marie.

Stop bullying the woman. She doesn’t have to express a preference just because you want her to. Mind your own business.

There is nothing, nothing at all, feminist to the demand that a woman speak at another’s command and in the manner that person demands. Rather, it is yet again supporting the notion that women must do as others say. https://t.co/7tJGnhWQYN

She literally writes about a–holes like you in her new album. She doesn’t have to tell any of us what she believes in just because she sings in public for a living. A magazine for women should never DICTATE their actions. Stick to making crappy recommendations. ? https://t.co/3BneN9V6xr

“While today’s feminists claim to champion the rights of all women, they speak only for women who agree with them – vocally, frequently and on demand.” @taylorswift13 owes you no explanations. https://t.co/3lvEaUoxHr https://t.co/Y7qrjItd4s

I mean I’m not chairman of the Taylor Swift fan club, but I don’t know that it’s the best use of Marie Claire’s editorial resources to pursue this investigation. https://t.co/MXEr2yJzie

Wow, who died and made this magazine the gatekeeper of politics for Taylor Swift? And “they are still waiting?” This is seriously disgusting. And it is bullying. https://t.co/aNvpFkv9SS

Taylor Swift isn’t obligated to talk about her politics just because you want her to. https://t.co/VbynaAOEZs

Oh I don’t know, maybe she just wants to be an entertainer and not an amplifier of your relentless, deranged hysteria.
Ever considered that possibility? https://t.co/s7PMqg5XA8

Shameful. This is political harassment. No one should be pressured to make their political positions public, even celebs. https://t.co/49sMIYWKMh

Still waiting for @marieclaire to stop bullying entertainers into professing Leftist group think. https://t.co/egqAWsKjDS
