Time to trash Obama’s ‘Citizen of the World’ nonsense

“Progressive” politicians have become a menace to America. These people rarely treasure the values of America’s civilization, and they present a danger to the cultural strengths of the West. This issue is rapidly turning into the great battle of our time, the battle of patriotism against globalism. Globalists, who can be thought of as world-progressives, disdain the notion of patriotism and independent, free sovereign nations; they want all nations to be governed by some multinational institution like the E.U. or U.N, and be restrained by the same set of rules and laws, controls created by a clique of central-government bureaucrats who are thousands of miles away.

A multicultural “globalist” will tell you that Americans have much to learn from the cultures of other countries. No thank you. This writer has been to over 35 countries, and I don’t see much that convinces me. My visits to most other countries have shown me profound examples of graft and corruption by government officials, economic misery, people hungry and in subjugation without freedom, decent people who live in mini-fortress houses to keep the criminals out, prolific potholes with no bottom in sight, and repressive governments. And these same globalists will say that Americans should have as much of an obligation to extend monetary aid to some nomad living in the Sudan as we do to someone needy, living in our home town.

Anyone who believes it’s a good idea to create a powerful central political authority, so powerful it can overwhelm individuals and local governments, has been asleep in any world history class they may have taken. Is it possible these globalists have forgotten that 100 years of central-government communist culture in Russia, China, North Korea, Vietnam, Cuba, Laos, the Congo and Cambodia, have produced 100 million or so dead bodies?

These same “citizens-of-the-world” globalists believe that actual American citizenship is meaningless. They do not believe Americans should make distinctions between foreigners and our own citizens; we should have open borders. They don’t think we ought to keep any immigrant from becoming an American citizen. Sound familiar? That’s the same claptrap that the sponsors of “Diversity Lotteries” and sanctuary cities spout: that it’s just fine if we have illegal immigrants running around in our cities– illegals who have broken our laws by infiltrating America– and ICE should not instill deportation fear in their poor little hearts. Ask an average real European how the immigrant deluge is working out for them these days.

One of the absolute low points for the United States during the political career of Barack Obama was the infamous day in 2008 he called himself “a citizen of the world”. But Obama’s “new international framework” was another pipedream, as he sold American exceptionalism down the river.

When Africa’s Ebola outbreak pushed itself onto the world, Obama’s immediate reaction was to reject all past American precedents for how our country deals with deadly overseas diseases. The prior standard was that America’s top priority was to keep the disease from entering the U.S. But our very own “citizen of the world” president had other ideas; he refused adamantly “to bar entry to the United States by people from countries where the Ebola epidemic” was raging, according to Thomas Sowell. The effect of his order was to place the safety of American citizens lower on his priorities than his goal to help foreigners and strangers. Then, Obama heaped on more danger by sending large numbers of American troops into the Ebola area, exposing them to medical dangers as well as endangering the American public when the troops returned.

Obama and the globalists have a complete misunderstanding of “citizenship.” Look up the word in your dictionary. It will tell you that citizenship means the status or position of being a citizen of a particular country or of belonging as a participatory member of a particular political community. U.S. citizens  are not going to develop new meaning in our lives from foreign cultures. Meaning is created from within, and American culture, even with its weaknesses, is the greatest guidepost there is for developing meaning for the human condition. Patriotism means protecting the culture and the values we treasure.
