Although many in the mainstream media tried to downplay and deny it at first, it wasn’t long before even the most reluctant were forced to call Tuesday’s New York City killing spree by 29-year-old Sayfullo Saipov a terrorist attack.
Saipov pledged allegiance to ISIS and yelled “Allahu Akbar” as he murdered 8 people and injured at least 15 with a Home Depot rental truck.
At first, President Trump’s response via Twitter was measured but firm.
But as more information about the killer became evident, Trump tweeted this:
Followed by condolences for the families affected.
And a promise to do something about the obvious…
A seemingly reasonable response, but liberals and Trump-haters were quick to criticize the president for supposed hypocrisy.
He’s very quick to respond to one kind of act of violence in particular. And it was in the USA. https://t.co/Bzn9rrFRmH

Las Vegas, white guy, guns: 58 dead; 515 wounded
New York, non-white guy, truck: 8 dead, 12 wounded
Guess which one he goes after? https://t.co/3NqXabkwH7

Hmmm, you weren't very angry when YOUR TERRORIST supporters ran over ppl in #Charlottesville #TrumpIsAWhiteSupremacist #Manhattan https://t.co/PKmlxyU2SB

IMO, The only reason why Trump's responding to today's NYC terror attack so quickly, is because the suspect yelled "Allah Akbar". https://t.co/Ng59JgNalR

I tell you, they’re willing to tackle any threat as long as it’s not white men. https://t.co/BdAzFpje6B

Excuse me, @PressSec. What happened to the president waiting for all the facts — the line you gave after Vegas? https://t.co/ljiVPpp0o8

Except, we do know the basic facts. Any attempts to compare Trump’s response here to Charlottesville or Las Vegas are apples to oranges and completely disingenuous. Condemning an obvious admitted Islamic terrorist isn’t the same thing as using a horrific murder to push one’s version of gun control before the victims are even in the ground. It’s not even in the same universe.
Speaking of hypocrisy, in an article entitled “Why Don’t Media Treat Islamist Terror Attacks Like White Supremacist Terror Attacks?” conservative pundit Ben Shapiro opines:
“Now, we can have solid discussions about Confederate monuments and the Confederate flag. Those discussions are worthwhile. But why is that we leap to discuss those issues when a white supremacist terrorist kills innocents, but we leap to defend Islam when an Islamist kills innocents? Why the difference? Isn’t radical Islam just as horrifying as white supremacism? And isn’t white supremacism just as statistically non-representative of Confederate flag-owners throughout the South as radical Islam is of observant Muslims across the country?”

Plenty of others agreed with Shapiro:
Too cowardly/politically correct. Afraid to say what is true because ‘we don’t want to anger them’. Already hate us, what is a little more
— Sanford Butler (@SanfordButler) October 31, 2017
…..hatred or anger? Already doing their best to kill us, either singly, or in wholesale lots (San Bernardino, Pulse Nightclub………..)

Doesn’t fit their Liberal narrative?

It doesn’t fit their agenda!

“Never let a serious crisis go to waste”. Rage only when it benefits their cause; white shooters, NFL protests, “police brutality”, etc.
— Lorin Roybal (@lroybal28) October 31, 2017
Finally, notwithstanding the negativity, much of the reaction to President Trump’s tweets were similar to these:
Last 8 years of liberal agenda let him in. We are infiltrated and they are waiting their turn to strike. Call me Cynical. Thank a Liberal https://t.co/w4IGdRrU7W

Why are liberal judges letting these terrorists in our country? This never happened until sissy Obama. This is his legacy. https://t.co/4LpeyE6dqg
