As millions of white Americans under siege by the racial grievance industry breathed a sigh of relief, a Cuban born baseball player was suspended for five games for making a racist gesture to a Japanese player.
Houston Astros first baseman Yuli Gurriel was disciplined by Major League Baseball for his actions after hitting a home run off Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Yu Darvish in the second inning of Game 3 of the World Series, Sports Illustrated reported.
Upon returning to the dugout, Gurriel was caught on camera pulling the corners of his eyes back to mock Darvish’s Japanese heritage.

“There is no place in our game for the behavior, or any behavior we witnessed last night,” MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said Thursday in a press conference. “There is no excuse.”
The player later apologized for the gesture and acknowledged that he mouthed the word “chinito” — a derogatory Spanish term that translates literally to “little Chinese.” according to Sports Illustrated.
Gurriel said through a translator that he wasn’t trying to offend anyone, he was just excited that he hit a home run off a Japanese pitcher — Gurriel previously played in Japan.
“I was commenting to my [teammates] that I didn’t have any luck against Japanese pitchers here in the United States,” he said.

Gurriel will be allowed to play in the World Series, serving his suspension at the start of the 2018 season.
The Houston Astros released a statement on the discipline decision via social media:

Social media was less than pleased with the delayed punishment… here’s a sampling of responses from Twitter:

MLB should have suspended that racist, Yuri. If a player said the N- word that would have been an automatic suspension.

Baseball continues to be archaic and out of touch …. weak suspension

Chase Utley got suspended two games during the 2015 NLDS for a slide, but Yuli Gurriel gets a meaningless "5 games of 2018" for vile racism? pic.twitter.com/NMMgAbAK23

As someone who hopes the Astros win the World Series: Yuli Gurriel should be suspended for the remainder of the series.
