Conservative giants scold Kimmel for irresponsible behavior: He ‘should not be cheered for what he did last night’

The political left has exploded in an enormous fit of hysteria in response to the tragic shooting in Las Vegas outside the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino–a brutal attack that left 59 dead and more than 500 wounded.

Violent incidents like these naturally call for rational debate about the best solutions–political or otherwise–to prevent similar devastation in the future. But liberals are abandoning logic for emotion in a demand to “do anything.”

Leading the charge is late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, who has apparently become the left’s Chief Moralizer since using his show as a platform to criticize the Republican Graham-Cassidy Obamacare repeal bill in the Senate.

On Monday night, the host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! went on a tear-filled rant against Republicans, whom he said “should be praying for God to forgive them for letting the gun lobby run this country.”

Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro, founder of the Daily Wire, was quick to disassemble Kimmel’s logic-free monologue, which included the following remarks:

“There are a lot of things we can do about it. But we don’t, which is interesting. Because when someone with a beard attacks us, we tap phones, we invoke travel bans, we build walls, we take every possible precaution to make sure it doesn’t happen again. But when an American buys a gun and kills other Americans, then there’s nothing we can do about that. And the Second Amendment, I guess, our forefathers wanted us to have AK-47s is the argument, I assume.”

While the mainstream media has heralded the talk show host’s speech as “common sense” heroism, Shapiro maintains that Kimmel’s comments deserve anything but praise.

“Jimmy Kimmel should not cheered for what he did last night,” the high-profile conservative said. “Jimmy Kimmel should be asked to provide the evidence for his suppositions rather than the evidence for his emotions. Again, I believe he’s sincere. Sincerity does not make what you’re saying smart.”

Shapiro called Kimmel’s speech “truly abhorrent” and rebuked him for accusing conservative Americans of apathy.

“Last night, he did a long shitck about gun control that was entirely based on emotion and it was really nasty. It was really nasty. I don’t think it was nasty because he doesn’t care. He cares. It’s really nasty because he’s suggesting that you and I don’t care.

It doesn’t matter that you lost sleep last night and I lost sleep because of what happened. It doesn’t matter that we’re all heartbroken over what happened. We don’t agree with Jimmy Kimmel’s evidence-less suggestions about gun control. That means that we don’t care. We are bad people.

You want to know why the country is not unified? It’s because of stuff like this. It’s not because we disagree on policy. We’ve been disagreeing about policy forever. It’s because there are certain people in the American public discourse who feel it necessary to impute bad motives to people who disagree and that’s what Kimmel’s doing here.”

The popular right-wing lecturer, who has gained notoriety for stumping intellectually-deficient liberals at college campuses, said it’s wrong to accuse the other side of immorality just because there are policy disagreements, specifically citing Kimmel’s comments on Islamic terror:

“I don’t assume he doesn’t care about terrorism. I’m sure he does. He just disagrees about the policy, so why can’t he grant us the same sort of credibility? We care about what happened in Vegas. We just disagree on the policy.”

Shapiro went on to refuse Kimmel’s claims that semiautomatic rifles like the AR-15 are not protected under the Second Amendment because they are (in his eyes) “military grade.”

“So, number one, the Founders would have wanted us to have AR-15s because the fact is, back in the day, all the weapons that people had were military grade weapons, right? A musket was a military-grade weapon. Now, AR-15s aren’t military grade…..Civilian guns are very different from military-issued guns. For him to say the Second Amendment doesn’t cover things like AR-15s — a semi-automatic rifle, is akin to me saying the First Amendment doesn’t cover TV because the Founders hadn’t seen a TV, would never know what it’d look like, and don’t understand how it works. It’s a silly argument. As far as the idea that ARs aren’t used for home defense, again, asinine. I have a bunch of friends who use ARs for home defense.”

The conservative powerhouse also dismissed the notion that the NRA bribes politicians, noting that it gives much less money than other organizations, such as unions.

“When he says the NRA is going to smother it in money, the NRA is not among the top dozen spenders in the American political system. The NRA does not give a lot of money to politicians. The NRA is a very powerful force because there are millions of people who are members.”

Finally, Shapiro went after Kimmel’s sense of moral superiority.

“Who died and who made Jimmy Kimmel God? Who’s Jimmy Kimmel to decide whether thoughts — your thoughts and your prayers are insufficient? So, your thoughts and prayers are only sufficient if you do what Jimmy Kimmel wants you to do? That’s the way this works now? Who died and made him Jesus? Like, really, how did this work again exactly that Jimmy Kimmel gets to be the great moral arbiter of our time? A late-night talk show host who used to host The Man Show with women bouncing on trampolines? He’s now the great arbiter of what constitutes morality in politics and if you disagree with him, your thoughts and prayers are insufficient.

Shapiro’s remarks echo the sentiment of conservative radio icon Rush Limbaugh, who called the gun control demands of liberal celebrities like Jimmy Kimmel “emotional” and bereft of “logic-based reasoning,” as seen at RushLimbaugh.com.

“None of this is fact-based, none of this is logic-based reasoning,” Limbaugh said. “In fact, no reasoning at all matters. It will not hold up against the emotional onslaught. Late-night comedians are now practically crying. You know, once Jimmy Kimmel got some fame and notoriety for his expertise in health care, all the other late-night comics are trying to get in on the act. And now last night all became experts on gun control and murder and crying. And it’s just part of the onslaught that we are facing now.”

Conservatives across the internet are telling Jimmy Kimmel to stick to comedy.
