Singer Jesse James Decker, who is married to Tennessee Titans wide receiver Eric Decker, took to social media earlier this week to explain why she loves to sing the Star Spangled Banner and what goes through her mind as she sings the national anthem.
“I think about my dad, my uncles, my cousins, both grandfathers who fought in the Vietnam war … I think about all of our troops I got to visit with and spend time with in the Middle East when I went over seas to sing for them,” the singer wrote.
While refreshing, what makes Decker’s comments stand out is what she said when a social media user noted that her husband remained in the locker room Sunday as the national anthem played.
In effect, the player’s wife responded by suggesting he was tricked into it.

It was widely reported that the Titans “chose” to sit in the locker room for the playing of the national anthem before last week’s game against Seattle.
The Titans organization released a statement on Sunday saying, “The players jointly decided this was the best course of action.”
But Jesse James Decker said her husband didn’t have the opportunity to choose.
“Sadly he wasn’t made aware that a decision had been made for him until he came out and it was over,” Decker wrote on Instagram, according to Media Research Center. “If he had known, he would have been out there hand over heart.
“Unfortunately he wasn’t made aware it was time to head out to the field as they always do every game.”
Eric Decker effectively endorsed his wife’s claim when he responded to her comment, saying: “Preach baby.”
