Talk about living in the past…
A woman with both feet firmly planted in the 19th century took great issue with a Texas Hobby Lobby selling cotton as a decorative home accessory.
In a Facebook post, Daniell Rider projected her personal, racially tinged tastes on a hyper-sensitive nation.
“There is nothing decorative about raw cotton,” Rider declared. “A commodity which was gained at the expense of African-American slaves. A little sensitivity goes a long way. Please remove this decor.”
Rider doesn’t seem to grasp that cotton today is not picked by slaves — which may be an indication that she’s a regular viewer at MSNBC.
But if Rider is looking for sympathy — little was offered in the comment section of her post — she need look no further than Lipscomb University.
Located in Tennessee, the school’s president begged forgiveness after hosting black students in his home while daring to display a cotton decoration.
“The content of the centerpieces was offensive, and I could have handled the situation with more sensitivity,” explained school president Randy Lowry. “I sincerely apologize for the discomfort, anger or disappointment we caused and solicit your forgiveness.”
