In a chilling 911 confession, a North Carolina man called emergency services to admit he murdered his wife, with an incredible excuse.
“I think I killed my…” Matthew Phelps began the call on Friday around 1:10 a.m. with the 911 dispatcher, ABC 30 reported.
“What do you mean by that? What happened,” the dispatcher asked him.
Phelps, an aspiring pastor, according to the report, explained that he believed he took too much cold medicine and when he awoke from a dream he found his wife, Sunday school teacher Lauren Ashley-Nicole Phelps, 29, dead and himself covered in blood.
“I had a dream and then I turned on the lights and she’s dead on the floor,” he said.
“How? How?” the operator questioned.
“I have blood all over me and there’s a bloody knife on the bed. I think I did it. I can’t believe this,” he said.

Phelps, who studied evangelism and mission, and graduated in 2001 from Clear Creek Baptist Bible College in Kentucky, said he was on Coricidin cough for issues with sleeping, according to ABC 30.
“I took more medicine than I should have. I took Coricidin Cough and Cold because I know it can make you feel good and sometimes I can’t sleep at night,” Phelps said.
Bayer, the makers of the drug Coricidin, expressed condolences but defended the product.
“Patient safety is our top priority. There is no evidence to suggest that Coricidin is associated with violent behavior,” Bayer told ABC News.
“She’s not moving at all. Oh my God. She didn’t deserve this,” Phelps said toward the end of the call.
Phelps is due in court on Tuesday and is being held without bond.
