Chaffetz says FBI arrest of Wasserman Schultz former IT director is about to blow up, he wasn’t a lone wolf

The case of Imran Awan, the former IT director of Debbie Wasserman Schultz who has been indicted on four counts of conspiracy against the United States, is about to get stickier.

Former Rep. Jason Chaffetz told Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo on Sunday that he believes there is more to the story of the IT aide for Congressional Democrats.

“This is a much, much more serious situation that I think will blossom. I think they probably let him sit there a little bit to see who he is communicating with. But to think this was a lone operator would be naive at best,” Chaffetz said.

“It is a very, very big story… To be able to follow the trail electronically to where money was flowing, to where information was flowing. I know they’re on top of it,” he added. “I know they were watching before they actually arrested him. And I do think it is a much, much more serious situation.”

The case has looked daunting for Wasserman Schultz from the start.

She threatened police to get Awan’s laptop back and insinuated he was being picked on for racial and religious reasons, after every other Congressperson had abandoned him.

And after it was learned that Awan wired hundreds of thousands of dollars to his native Pakistan, where his wife, who has also been indicted fled.

It was also discovered that Wasserman Schultz intended to pay Awan after he fled to Pakistan, before he was arrested at the airport attempting to fly to his nation of origin.

Awan, and his brothers, had access to countless emails of members of Congress and it is believed they sold some secrets obtained from them to foreign agents.
