Some in the liberal media have their panties in a wad overĀ some course remarks from Defense Secretary James Mattis earlier this month about servingĀ in the U.S. Navy.
…at least, that’s the take given NBC News’ headline calling attention to Mattis for using a “disparaging term.”
Speaking at an event at Naval Base Kitsap, in Washington state, “Mad Dog” Mattis told the sailors they would not regret their service and praised them for not being “some p*ssy sitting on the sidelines,ā according to aĀ transcript of his remarks released by the Pentagon.

āYou will have some of the best days of your life and some of the worst days of your life in the U.S. Navy, you know what I mean?ā he told the sailors.
Reflecting his passion for the military and for taking action, Mattis was blunt in his assessment.
āThat means you’re living. That means you’re not some p*ssy sitting on the sidelines, you know what I mean, kind of sitting there saying, āWell, I should have done something with my life,āā he said.
āBecause of what you’re doing now, you’re not going to be laying on a shrink’s couch when you’re 45 years old, saying āWhat the hell did I do with my life?ā Why? Because you served others, you served something bigger than you.ā
Mattis wished aloud that he was āyoung enough to go back out to sea.ā
āAlthough, I will admit it takes a special kind of person to be in submarines,” he said. “I was in the Marines, and there’s a world of difference between a submariner and a Marine, you know what I mean?ā
In addition to NBC’s reaction, The Washington Free Beacon noted that Newsweek and The Washington Post took issue with Mattis’ choice of words:

Not that Mattis didn’t have a few social media users on his side, as seen below:
