The white nationalist organizer of Saturday’s Charlottesville march, which resulted in the death of a young woman and two police officers, was rushed away in the middle of an attempted press conference on Sunday.
Jason Kessler blamed the city and the police for the violence and the death of 32-year-old paralegal Heather Heyer in his initial words to the press.

The Charlottesville government and its police force “failed to maintain law and order by protecting the First Amendment rights of the participants of the ‘Unite the Right’ rally,” he alleged in a statement, according to the Daily Mail.

He said his group had made security arrangements with the city and police, but that those plans went awry when he had to go to court to fight to have the rally in Emancipation Park after the city ordered it moved.
“They rescinded permission,” Kessler said. “We fought them in federal court and we beat them in federal court. (But) it upended all our security arrangements.”
He said that he wanted to use his press conference to “condemn the violence yesterday” and “to disavow any folks getting hurt.”
But the angry crowd started to boo loudly and close in around him.

Before they could tear him to shreds, police rushed in and whisked Kessler away to the safety of a police station.
As he was being led away from the angry mob he told reporters “I disavow any political violence and what happened yesterday was tragic.
“The denial of first amendment rights… led to the political violence that happened yesterday,” he said.
