This is the answer to the question, “Why didn’t the officer use a Taser?”
Malcolm Antwan Orr, 29 was caught on an officer’s eyeglass camera refusing to obey orders before whipping out a gun and firing .
Orr was found guilty of attempted murder on Wednesday for the shooting of a South Carolina police officer that took place on New Year’s Day 2016.
The video shows Police Officer Quincy Smith walking toward Orr and repeatedly telling him to stop and move his hands from his pockets.
Eventually Officer Smith pulls his Taser and threatens to use it on Orr if he does not comply.
That’s when Orr produced a gun from his pocket and shot Officer Smith at point-blank range.
Thankfully, Officer Smith was able to run back to his vehicle and radio for help.
“Dispatch I’m hit!” he shouted using his bloody hand to call for help.
“I’m hit in my neck some place,” he told the dispatcher. “My arms are broken.”
Before signing off he told the dispatcher to “Tell my family I love them.”
Smith was struck with four shots, according to CBS News.
The shots broke two bones in Smith’s arm and punctured a vein in his neck, but, thankfully, he survived.
“If but not for the grace of God and some very good doctors, this would not only have been a murder case, but a death penalty case,” Solicitor Duffie Stone said in a statement.
Orr was also found guilty of possessing a weapon in a violent crime after a 45 minute deliberation and received the maximum sentence for each charge, totaling 35 years in prison.
