President Donald Trump announced his plan to ban transgender troops from serving in the military on Twitter last week and White House aide Sebastian Gorka has defended the decision by explaining what the military’s purpose is.
““The military is not a microcosm of civilian society. They are not there to reflect America. They are there to kill people and blow stuff up. They are not there to be socially engineered. We want people who are transgender to live happy lives, but we want unit cohesion and we want combat effectiveness,” he told BBC Radio 4 on Friday.

Gorka cited the 40 percent suicide rate of transgenders and contended that the decision was made because of the president’s “warmth” for the transgender community.
“We don’t need to help try and force them into the hierarchical military environment where they are under the utmost pressure to kill or be killed,” he said. “That is why the president is doing this out of the warmth of his consideration for this population.”
The interviewer argued that “it probably doesn’t feel like warmth from the transgender perspective.”
“We’re not here to represent one part of America,” Gorka responded. “We are here to represent all of America and protect Americans,” Gorka fired back.
