Woman sues casino after being offered steak dinner in place of $43 mil the ‘faulty machine’ said she’d won

A New York woman is suing a casino after being offered a steak dinner and $2.25 rather than the $43 million she believed she won.

Katrina Bookman of Queens was playing the “Sphinx Slot Machine” at Resorts World Casino when the machine told her she hit the jackpot, CNN Money reported.

She snapped a selfie next to the screen telling her she won what would have been the largest slots jackpot in U.S. history.

When she attempted to claim her winnings she was told that she hadn’t actually won anything more than $2.25 and was offered a free steak dinner as compensation.

She accepted neither, according to her lawyer.

In August, when the incident occurred, Dan Bank, a spokesman for the casino, explained to CNN that “casino personnel were able to determine that the figure displayed on the penny slot was the result of an obvious malfunction — a fact later confirmed by the New York State Gaming Commission.”

The state’s gaming commission said that the machine has a disclaimer that states “malfunctions void all pays and plays.”

Bookman’s lawyer Alan Ripka said he’s been working with the casino to attempt to get more money for his client but to no avail, thus why they have filed a lawsuit.

“You can’t claim a machine is broken because you want it to be broken. Does that mean it wasn’t inspected? Does it mean it wasn’t maintained?,” he told CNN Money. “And if so, does that mean that people that played there before [Bookman] had zero chance of winning?”

Bookman is asking for, at least, $43 million in the suit.
