On Monday, CNN published a report suggesting that the White House is ending Michelle Obama’s female education initiative “Let Girls Learn.”

“There have been no changes to the program,” State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert swiftly rebuked on Monday.
“The Administration supports policies and programs to empower adolescent girls, including efforts to educate them through the completion of secondary school. We are committed to empowering women and girls around the world and are continuing to examine the best ways to do so,” Nauert added.
An “internal memo” was reportedly obtained by CNN earlier on Monday that suggested the Trump administration would scrap the initiative, which helps girls in developing countries seek educational opportunities.
Context is crucial. Here is the alleged email from Sheila Crowley, the acting director of the Peace Corps.
“Moving forward, we will not continue to use the ‘Let Girls Learn’ brand or maintain a stand-alone program. ‘Let Girls Learn’ provided a platform to showcase the Peace Corps’ strength in community development, shining a bright light on the work of our Volunteers all over the world. We are so proud of what ‘Let Girls Learn’ accomplished and we have all of you to thank for this success.”

Crowley clearly stated that aspects of the initiative specifically focusing on girls education around the world would continue. The memo, assuming it is authenticated, only adds that they will not use the “brand,” meaning the program will be merged with another initiative going forward or simply renamed.
The memo does not make any mention of ending or scraping the program as mainstream media outlets have claimed.
Many across social media also fired back at CNN for running the false report aimed at making president Trump look like he was undoing all of Michelle Obama’s programs:
