Brittney Roy was just 7-years-old when her father, NYPD Sgt. Timothy Roy, died in the line of duty when the World Trade Center South Tower collapsed on September 11, 2001.
And now, the 22-year-old daughter is following in her father’s footsteps, becoming a member of the NYPD.
Her hero father would be proud.

As a part of the NYPD surface transit enforcement division, Sgt. Roy was working the Brooklyn courts when the two planes first flew into the World Trade Center. Naturally, he rushed toward the danger to help, and was last seen in the South Tower before its collapse, according to CBS New York.
“The day before St. Patrick’s Day, which was his favorite holiday, he was found and we were able to bury his body,” said Brittney, who currently lives in Massapequa Park on Long Island.
Roy has always dreamed of becoming a police officer like her hero father.
“Growing up in the police department you really see the true heroes that they have within the departments and it’s just always been a dream to be one of them. Especially what my dad had done for the nation, the country it was a true aspiration to be able to try to follow in his footsteps.”
She was sworn in on Thursday along with 473 fellow recruits and had plenty of well-wishers on social media.
