Sen. Lindsey Graham is finally “proud” of President Donald Trump. But his reasons left a lot of conservatives less than happy.
As one tweeter put it, “Graham talks about troops like they are the little green army figures kids played with many years ago! Our troops are real, live people!”
The South Carolina senator told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson on Friday that he is pleased with the president’s decision to strike at the Syrian airbase, from which Syrian President Bashar al-Assad launched a chemical gas attack on his own people.
“I’m proud of (President Trump),” he said. “He did something (former President) Obama didn’t do and, if I’m North Korea, I’m gonna think differently about Trump because … he didn’t draw a red line, he just acted.”
But, Graham said, he would take it even further.
The senator wants to see more military intervention and gave an idea of the type of president he would have been had he won the election.
Graham told Carlson that he wants to deploy 7,000 U.S. troops on the ground in Syria, with the ultimate goal being regime change.
“What would this cost? If we did what you’re calling for, 7,000 American troops in Syria, how long would they be there and what would that cost?” Carlson asked.
The senator said that the cost is “minimal compared to the threats we face.”
“Our national security interests cannot be monetized,” he added.
Graham explained that not only is he in favor of intervention now, he also thinks previous interventions were good ideas.
“The world is better off without (former Iraqi President) Saddam Hussein. The world is better off without (former Libyan dictator Muammar ) Gaddafi,” Graham said.
Both Carlson, and conservatives on social media, were bewildered and frightened by the prospect of what Graham was proposing.

@KamVTV @TuckerCarlson To say that @LindseyGrahamSC was confused and unable to effectively explain his desire for war in Syria is an understatement.
