When President Trump said he wasn’t going to take a salary, he meant it, and look who’s getting it!

In September 2015, then-candidate Donald Trump promised the American people that he would forgo the official Presidential salary of $400,000 per year, and he even reiterated that promise to Lesley Stahl on 60 Minutes the week after he got elected.

Last month, skeptical reporters questioned where President Trump’s salary was going, leading Press Secretary Sean Spicer to suggest the press themselves might come up with a worthy charity for Trump’s salary to go to.

‘Straight up, that’s total BS’: Sen. Orrin Hatch puts CNN host in his place in tense exchange

“The president’s intention right now is to donate his salary at the end of the year and he has kindly asked that you should all help him determine where that goes,” Spicer said at the time. “In all seriousness, I think his view is he made a pledge to the American people that he wants to donate it to charity and he’d love your help to determine where it should go.”

It’s unclear whether or not the press voted on where to ultimately donate the presidential salary, but even its most liberal members likely won’t disagree with where it’s going to end up … because President Trump has officially donated his first paycheck, to the tune of $78,333.32, to the National Park Service.

According to Fox News, both Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke and Harpers’ Ferry National Park Superintendent Tyrone Brandyburg accepted the personal check on behalf of the park service. During the ceremony, Zinke described how the slogan “For the Benefit and Enjoyment of All People,” which is inscribed on Yellowstone National Park’s Theodore Roosevelt Arch, is now his department’s motto.

According to Spicer, the check, which featured President Trump’s signature and Trump Tower address, totaled “every penny that he received… since January 20 at Noon.”
