President Trump has gotten a lot of flak lately for his golf outings, but as any businessperson knows, golf can be just as much about business as about fun, and a deal or even progress towards a deal isn’t lessened by the fact that it took place between tee shots.
On Sunday, Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky, a prominent Senate supporter of the House Freedom Caucus and staunch opponent of Paul Ryan’s failed healthcare bill, accepted Trump’s invitation to play a round of golf at Trump National Golf Club in northern Virginia.
White House Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney, a founding member of the House Freedom Caucus, was there too, and as would be expected a main topic of conversation was healthcare.
Speaking with reporters afterward, Paul confirmed as much:
“We had a great day with the president,” Paul said. “We did talk about some health care reform. I think the sides are getting closer and closer together. And I remain very optimistic that we will get an ObamaCare repeal.”
Before the outing, President Trump tweeted this:
Talks on Repealing and Replacing ObamaCare are, and have been, going on, and will continue until such time as a deal is hopefully struck.

Anybody (especially Fake News media) who thinks that Repeal & Replace of ObamaCare is dead does not know the love and strength in R Party!

After the outing, Senator Paul weighed in on social media as well:
I had a great time today with @realDonaldTrump and believe we are getting closer to an agreement on health care!

In other words, in the immortal words of Yogi Berra, “it ain’t over ’till it’s over.”
