Uber-liberal former Saturday Night Live writer Tina Fey is throwing shade at white women for their role in electing Donald Trump to the White House.
Speaking with ACLU officials Donna Lieberman and Louise Melling during a Friday segment of the ACLU telethon “Stand for Rights,” Fey turned her attention to “white, college-educated women” who helped elect Trump, according to Raw Story.
“A lot of this election was turned by white, college-educated women who now would maybe like to forget about this election and go back to watching HGTV,” said Fey. “I would want to urge them to like, ‘You can’t look away’ because it doesn’t affect you this minute, but it’s going to affect you eventually.”
Elaborating further, Fey explained “Again, open two windows. Do watch HGTV. [Don’t] turn attention away from what is happening.”
Later in the discussion, Fey came around to the topic again:
“I personally will make my own pledge as a college-educated white woman to not look away, to not pretend that things are happening now won’t eventually affect me if we don’t put a stop to it.”
Naturally, during a stand-up segment the comedian also had harsh words for President Trump, saying they have two things in common: “One, neither of us has any business wearing khakis with a shirt tucked in, and two, we’re both very upset about the amount of fake news out in the world right now. So, don’t let any website tell you that the ACLU stands for Anti-Christian Lesbian Underground.”
Fey also had some commentary on Trump’s Friday proclamation of April as National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month.
“Earlier tonight, in what is surely an April Fools’ joke,” Fey said, “the president proclaimed that next month will be National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month, so now we know what he gave up for Lent.”
Mike Pence didn’t escape unscathed either, as Fey took advantage of the recent coverage regarding Pence’s relationship with his wife, Karen, to needle Pence.
“Luckily, Mike Pence isn’t allowed to go down and shut up Planned Parenthood unless his wife goes with him. So, if we can just keep Karen busy scrapbooking we can all still get Pap smears.”
