Showtime’s groundbreaking ‘The Circus’ starts new season with hilarious first-ever stakeout of the CBO

An all-new season of “The Circus: Inside The Biggest Show on Earth” begins Sunday night on Showtime.

The show is a groundbreaking, real-time political documentary series hosted by New York Times bestselling co-authors Mark Halperin and John Heilemann with a hand from political strategist Mark McKinnon.

More on the first new episode from The Circus:

“The first episode, ‘Shocking But Not Surprising,’ examines the drama unfolding in Washington around Republicans’ attempt to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act with a new healthcare law of their own, examining how both the plan’s principal supporters and its opponents handle the wild unpredictability that has come to define President Donald Trump’s first days in office.”

In the clip below, the guys show up unannounced at the Congressional Budget Office, which is scoring the new Republican health care bill, after finding themselves on an endless voicemail loop when trying to get someone on the phone.

“They’re acting like they just want to be the Wizard of Oz, so what we’re going to do is we’re going to look at the man behind the curtain,” Halperin explains.

So they hilariously stake out the Congressional Budget Office, which may be a first.

Highlights of Sunday’s episode, airing at 8 p.m. EST, include Halperin covering Trump as he flies around the country rallying support for the new GOP healthcare bill, giving viewers an inside look at what it’s like traveling aboard Air Force One.

There are also interviews with Sens. Ted Cruz and Rand Paul and a behind the scenes look at NBC’s “Today” and MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
