Trump calls WH intruder ‘troubled.’ Captured with a ‘weapon’ and a letter, here’s what else was in backpack

A man with a backpack was apprehended near the south entrance to the executive residence of the White House Friday night while President Donald Trump was inside and the president was appreciative of the men and women tasked with protecting him.

“Secret Service did a fantastic job last night,” he said Saturday at a press availability.

The man got close to the residence’s south portico entrance with a backpack, calling into question improvements in security since a fence-jumper actually made it INSIDE the White House in September 2014.

The intruder who scaled the While House fence Friday was identified as 26-year-old Jonathan Tran, who Trump said “was a troubled person.”

Tran had two cans of mace in his possession and was charged late Saturday in a District of Columbia federal court with “entering or remaining in restricted grounds while using or carrying a dangerous weapon,” Fox News reported.

“I am a friend of the president. I have an appointment,” he told the officer who approached him.

Tran had with him an Apple laptop computer, a book written by Trump and a letter to the president, according to the criminal complaint filed against him.

The letter echoes Trump’s description of a “troubled person,” with Tran saying he had relevant information regarding “Russian hackers” and claiming his phone and email communications were being “read by a third party.” He also said he’s been called “schizophrenic.”
