Wasserman Schultz hits DHS for ‘religiously profiling’ Muhammad Ali’s son again … except it didn’t happen

In a now standard rush to judgment by Democrats eager to pander to identity groups, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz accused the Department of Homeland Security of not only detaining but “religiously profiling” Muhammad Ali’s son. Again.

…except it didn’t exactly happen that way.

Muhammad Ali Jr. was flying home to Florida from Washington D.C., when he was temporarily delayed from boarding the Jet Blue flight at Reagan National Airport, the Sun Sentinel reported.

Ali told the newspaper he produced a state ID that was not accepted:

“I got harassed again,” Ali said in a telephone interview. “They had a ‘red flag’ on my flight. They said I wasn’t able to get on until I talked to homeland security.” He said he offered his state identification, which he was told wasn’t acceptable. “Luckily I had a passport so they let me on the plane.”

The incident is the second time in a month the son of the legendary boxer has problems while traveling. Ali was questioned at Fort Lauderdale International Airport in February during President Donald Trump’s first temporary travel ban. A friend of the family claimed Ali, a Muslim, was asked about his religion.

The TSA, which falls under Homeland Security, denied that Ali was detained Friday, saying he was stopped briefly — 11 minutes total — to verify his identity, the Courier-Journal reported.

“The TSA does not have the authority to detain passengers, and that did not happen,” a spokesman said.

After being cleared Ali’s “large jewelry” set off the scanner, prompting another seven-minute delay as he was patted down by agents.

But Department of Homeland Security spokesman David Lapan told the Courier-Journal that Ali, who arrived around noon to check in for his 1 p.m. flight, was one of the first travelers to board the plane.

Not only did Wasserman Schultz recklessly accuse the TSA of religious profiling, she confirmed it when asked via Twitter by MSNBC’s Christopher Hayes:

There was little sympathy over her rush to judgment on social media… here’s a sampling of responses from Twitter:
