In a move that highlights Donald Trump’s support of law enforcement, the president has invited Elizabeth Snyder, wife of slain St. Louis County police officer Blake Snyder, to attend his address to a joint session of Congress Tuesday night.
Officer Blake Snyder, 33, was shot by 18-year-old Trenton Forster while responding to a disturbance call last October. He was hit in the chin and pronounced dead almost as soon as he got to the hospital, according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch. Forster was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action.
On Monday, Fox 2 in St. Louis reported that Elizabeth Snyder is honored to attend and is looking forward to the president’s words about law enforcement. She also posted similar words on Facebook last week:
In the speech, which will be called an “address to a joint session” instead of a traditional State of the Union speech, will outline current administration goals.
A few months after her husband’s death his wife shared some of his letters written on their wedding day on social media.
From the post: “Officers are human. They make mistakes. But so does everyone else. They have lives, families and love. Please, please be aware of that next time you see one somewhere.”
Snyder also posted a picture of their son holding his father’s American flag.
Meanwhile, Democrat lawmakers plan on inviting several illegal immigrants to watch the address.
