A Chicago sportscaster has been suspended after calling President Donald Trump a “cartoon lunatic” and his supporters “simpletons.”
ABC 7’s Mark Giangreco responded to a tweet from Bruce Arthur, a sports columnist from the Toronto Star that said “Donald Trump: a hateful ignorant corrupt simpleton supported by 87 (percent) of Republicans.”
Giangreco replied by saying “so obvious, so disturbing. America exposed as a country full of simpletons who allowed this cartoon lunatic to be ‘elected.'” in a tweet he deleted, but not before social media users took screenshots.

“Sports anchor Mark Giangreco’s Twitter comments are not in line with ABC 7 Chicago’s non-partisan editorial standards,” the network said in a statement to the Chicago Tribune. “We’ve reviewed the matter and are taking the appropriate action.”
The sportscaster is no stranger to controversy.
I response to a tweet from former Major League Baseball pitcher Curt Schilling suggesting that CNN ought to be called LPNN, meaning the Liberal Propaganda News Network, Giangreco suggested Fox News be called “Nazi News.”
He also made fun a the appearance of Walter Payton as “shriveled” before he knew the NFL Hall of Famer was suffering from liver cancer.
And he apologized after showing a picture of Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler with the caption “Cut him or cut your wrists,” the Tribune reported.
